Job Hunting Sucks!

Dear awesome designer, yes - I'm talking to you 🫵

If you agree with the statement above and want to reduce stress of finding next UX job to minimum, this text is for you. However, if you prefer to jump to the offers right away, here is a link

Being out of work is a time full of anxiety about the future, finances, and loved ones. It’s undoubtedly a challenging period that puts you to the test. Currently, layoffs in the UX industry are flooding the market with candidates, while the number of job offers isn’t increasing.

Our industry is clearly experiencing a crisis. A designer looking for a new job has to compete with many candidates (when I was transitioning to my new job in April 2024, I was told there were 150 applicants for my position!).

But that is not important right now. I want to show you how my portal will help you stand out among other candidates. Believe me—job hunting is more than applying.

A bit about me

Yep - that old guy with a spaceman toy is me 👻 I am Piotr, a designer living in Warsaw with my wife and wonderful son. I create this project entirely on my own. No devs, no marketing people, SEO specialists, just me :) I worked 7 years for one of the biggest job board in Germany. I want to use this knowledge and build the best job board for designers. Yes - I said that, THE BEST one.

My dream is to ditch my 9-to-5 job and live thanks to this project. I want more time for my son and wife. To travel and enjoy life. To be free.

In the next chapter, I’ll focus on what each of us should do—thorough research before diving into the task ;)

Competition

Let’s say you’re just starting to look for a new job and want to browse new job offers, where do you start?

LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed? These are great sites with lots of offers. But… Does the number of offers really matter? What if instead of 100 offers a month, you received 10 perfectly tailored to your requirements?

You’ve probably heard the saying Quality over Quantity. It should be the same with job boards! I’m looking for the perfect place, I need perfect offers. Most importantly—I’m looking for offers for UX or Product designers. Others don’t interest me at all.

Raise your hand if you’ve never encountered this. One of the most well-known job search sites. I type “UX” and what’s the most relevant offer I get at the top?

Junior Frontend Engineer, indeed… (Did I mention something about quality?…)

You know what outrages me the most when browsing job boards for designers? They are ugly as hell 👺 One after another. Default styling, boring pages, Arial font, copy paste because that's a standard.

You can be sure that I won't follow boring patterns. That's not in my DNA. That's why the next section below is so important to understand the difference between uxjobs.club and other services. Please read about my USP!

Unique selling point

Without it, no product will succeed. At the beginning, I had to think about what my USP is. There are tons of job boards—why should you check out mine? I know the answer to that question ;)

Do you know what the job search process looks like for almost all services? Like this:

Nothing could be further from the truth. Does your stress/uncertainty end after applying? I don’t think so. In my opinion, it looks like this:

In November 2023, I lost my job due to group layoffs and I remember that moment well. I didn’t jump straight to applying. Before that, I had to prepare my portfolio and CV. When I then got an interview invitation from a company, I researched the company and prepared for the interview.

My job search lasted 5 months until I finally started a new job in April 2024. It was a huge relief. But the process wasn’t over for me. I got my first contract for 3 months, so my task was to show myself in the best light at the new company. I’m sure your job search process will look similar.

To sum up:

  1. uxjobs.club going beyond explore and apply stage supporting you in the whole job hunting process
  2. The website is well-optimized for fast browsing (you will notice that for sure)
  1. Hidden gem - Designers love dark themes so DARK MODE EVERYWHERE!

All you have to do is to prepare, smash interview process and onboard successfully in the new company!
